I never knew anyone, and I lived in a very high density area in southern CA. Maybe the sunshine helped offset some of the culty type feelings? Not saying this doesn't happen or is a problem, but I never heard of it. Particularly with anyone disfellowshipped.

Suicide - How many do you know within the JWs
by Lady Lee inthw wts likes to play games with their statistics.
one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?
if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.

An E-mail Exchange with an Elder
by Saename inever since i had become an atheist and started to listen to podcasts such as the one by sam harris or shows like the atheist experience, i began to think that it is my responsibility to believe as many true things and as few false things as possible.
in order to ensure that my beliefs are rationally justified, i started to follow logic, reason, and evidence.
i cannot say that all my beliefs are true, but i can definitely say that i make the efforts to ensure that they are at the very least reasonable.. i also became willing to debate people.

So may I ask, how are you coming across these willing elders to engage in debate with a former member? Unbaptized publisher means you were never baptized of course....so there is the rub.

Fatherless Boys
by JW_Rogue inthe wt teaches that "fatherless boys" need special care and attention in the congregation.
however, as brought out at the rc their definition of "fatherless boys" includes boys that have actual fathers who maybe very well qualified to teach and raise their sons.
according to wt, if either of your parents aren't jws then you are a "fatherless boy.

This was me. My father was an unbeliever, and I remember making consciense to not be close to him, because he was just going to be killed. I viewed him as something of an enemy.
About a year ago, i apologized to him for this and spkoe about it openly. It felt good to do so.

The Rank Hypocrisy of JW Rank and File
by steve2 inwtf?
russian jw mr novik is shown in full view on jw org wearing the "parental glory" badge with its prominent cross pattee on his lapel - and not one word of caution is sounded.
similarly, jw forums are abuzz singing the praises of mr and mrs novik and their brood after they received the parental glory honor from no less than jw-oppressor, mr putin.. from the stinking gb heaven all the way down to the dusty rank and file, the hypocrisy is sky-high.

Why does this forum tolerate Cold steele and his mormonism beliefs ? Who`s next ?
by smiddy ini thought this forum was for people who were ex jw`s and pro jw`s and the like to debate ,discuss and reasonably talk about our differences ,and sometimes drift off into politics world events and whatever.. however over a period of time i have come across cold steel `s many posts which are nothing more than promoting his mormon religions point of view./beliefs what has that got to do with jehovahs witnesses and the concerns many have with the jw religion.?.
it seems to me he is using this forum to promote his religion and is getting away with it over a long period of time.. how long before other cult religions see this as a springboard for promoting their own religion such as .
sda`s ,christian scientists , christadelphians ,beroean bible students ,etc.etc.. where will it end if he is able to keep doing this ?.

Very interesting. This smacks of the local branch putting it together for what seems like obvious reasons. I too would really like an interpretation of the fathers speech in context. Very bizarre.

I dont know about the lock. I dont care for it. Pioneering is a drag. Pioneering with 3 small children is horrific. I camt imagine why she woukd choose that. Guilt no doubt. Wanting to be a better person, but not knowing it has nothing to do with that, and everything to do with her family.
I sant to make this very clear. You NEED to make sure you take care of the lids furing meeting times. Whatever you do.....do that. Otherwise on the long run you risk loosi g them to. I grew up distant from my father because afyer all......he was going to die at the e d of the world......any day now. From a very young age, i decided this meant i couldnt be close to him.
Your kids being exposed to this high control group......is the most important thing for you to consider.

NPR to know generally whats happening and business news. VICE for whats happening in the world and specialty reporting.
Fox in my mind does not actually qualify as a news source.

How do you talk to a child that believes Jehovah/Armageddon is real
by Anony Mous ini'm having some serious issues with my child, she is now 5 and her mother is teaching her all sorts of things regards god, jehovah is real, in heaven, pray if you're scared, etc.
the problem is the kid is scared of demons at night and also conflicted that i don't believe, she also figured out jehovah doesn't actually help her not to be scared.. i've tried explaining that i'm there for her, watching over at night.
i've tried introducing her to various churches and beliefs so she understands there is a difference in believes and she likes those churches better than kingdom hall.

I remember having panic when I was 12, because my mom told me she didn't think we would make it to the year 2000. I remember the horror thinking about my dad dying (not a JW), my school friends dying, and ME dying. After all, I was a little boy, who didn't always do everything perfect!
Terrible.
My 2 cents is be honest with your daughter. You can always say that mommy believes in those things, but I don't. Nothing is going to come and get you here. You are safe, you are loved, and maybe i can cuddle with you for a few minutes while you sleep so you feel safe. Tell her they are made up, and there is nothing to worry about. Mommy believes in them, but it doesn't mean you have to.
Unless of course you do believe in them, then adapt as needed. My point is just make her feel secure, and that she should trust her experience.....which I assume up to this point is devoid of evil spirits. :)
